DTLA (Downtown Los Angeles) has been capturing my heart for years. There has been this resurgence of energy into the area, from the art scene that is blowing up with impressively large murals, to the food and beverage scene, there is this feeling of being alive in DTLA.
That is why I was so excited that Bianca & Kevin wanted to shoot their engagement session at Hotel Figueroa in DTLA. Hotel Figueroa is the essence of Los Angeles — if there was a fragrance made to resemble DTLA it would have a bit of Hotel Figueroa mixed in. The hotel was built in 1926 and is a stunner for a photoshoot. It brings that elegant 1920’s Hollywood feel while mixing in the contemporary style.

It is incredibly romantic when my couples make their engagement photoshoot a fun date night. I mean why not? You two have the perfect opportunity to get dressed up and make a night out of it. A few things I recommend to my couples are:
This is an excellent time to do a run-through of hair & makeup if you are going to have these services on your wedding day.
Make dinner reservations at a favorite restaurant or spot you have been wanting to try.
Bring two outfits, that way we can get a formal look & casual look.
You can see in the photos of Bianca & Kevin that we took all the opportunities to find unique spots in the hotel. The staircases provided a really cool vantage point. The tile in the hotel gave off a Spanish feel within the interiors. The mural artwork and parking lot photos were some of my favorites because they are so unique.
If you look at the gallery on the hotel’s site or even photos from others, there is nothing that compares to Bianca & Kevin’s engagement photos. Part of the experience I have from being a professional photographer for ten years is being able to step into a new location and find the hidden gems that are going to represent you as a couple and be unique for your engagement session. One of my secret flexes is that I am a terrific location scout!
