Have you ever heard of the sunshine tax? It is a joke that when you live in Southern California you are paying for that year-round sunshine! That saying felt truer than ever during Hannah & Marvin’s maternity session.
It was honestly hard to tell if we were shooting in Hawaii or California! The sunset and location had that tropical feel that was simply stunning, and their elegant and casual outfits could not have been more perfect. The white color choice allowed for both them, the coming baby, and location to all stand-out.
One of my favorite parts about Hannah & Marvin’s maternity session is that I was supposed to be photographing their wedding. Life changes and new adventures are always on the horizon. What I love about my career is that I get to flow where the adventures take my clients! I mean look at this gorgeous couple ready to welcome a little bundle of joy into the world!

For this maternity session, we picked the beach in front of Montage Laguna Beach. There are several beaches I recommend when clients ask for a beach location, but this is always one of my favorites. The tidepools and rocky arch are just gorgeous, and its tropical beach feel is very accessible. The luxury resort nearby gives couples an opportunity to make it a night and stay, or grab dinner after the photoshoot!

Plan your maternity session for right around 30 weeks pregnant, or between your seventh and eighth month of being pregnant.
Most photographers only photograph maternity sessions during the middle of the week to avoid crowds. Plan in advance to get it scheduled and take the day off work if you need to.
I stress this in most of my shoots but especially with a maternity session: wear what makes you feel comfortable! It is a game changer for your confidence.
