LAUREN CATE WEDDING TIPS

How to get the most out of your wedding photos, and help the day run smoothly

Getting Ready

In order to get things off to a great start, please have all of the details and mementos you want images of in one place (i.e. your dress, shoes, all rings — including his — invitation suite, jewelry, veil, bouquet, family heirlooms, and any other items). If these are all in one central spot and ready to be photographed when I arrive, I can get through the detail stuff quicker so that I can focus on you getting ready and having fun — this will also help you to make sure you have everything you need in one location!

Little details like:

  • having your dress hung on a pretty wooden hanger instead of a plastic one really makes a difference.

  • Steam your dresses before your wedding day.

  • try your dress on with the underwear you are going to wear on the day of so there are no surprises of things not fitting well/showing.

  • gentlemen, make sure you know how to tie your tie and fold your pocket square.

  • make sure your florist knows to deliver your bouquet and boutonniere in time for individual portraits.

BRIDAL PARTY

  • Make sure your florist knows to deliver bridesmaids bouquets and groomsmen boutonnieres before these photos begin. If possible, request for at least two pins per boutonierre so they stay on.

  • when holding your bouquet, keep thumbs right at your belly button and this is usually a good trick to get it in the right position.

  • make sure your bridal party knows when their time for photos is, so they can plan bathroom breaks, pumping, or kid wrangling breaks accordingly.

Family Formals

GATHER AROUND

  • make sure your family knows when their time for photos is, so they can plan bathroom breaks, pumping, or kid wrangling breaks accordingly.

  • family members with florals should have them by this time.

  • please put a family member or bridal party member in charge of gathering the individuals needed, as I do not know who your Uncle Jim is (although I hope to meet him throughout the day)! I promise those images will be quick and pain free if everyone is there and ready.

Ceremony

  • ask your officiant to make sure you are both centered on the isle/under your arch.

Or use placement tape at the rehearsal!

  • ask your officiant to make sure they tell the guests when they can be seated.

  • pass off your bouquet to your bridesmaid so your hands are free to hold your partners.

  • pause for another kiss on your way back up the isle, or at the end of the isle during the recession, this is always a great image with all your people cheering you on behind you!

Cocktail Hour

  • lets sneak away for a few sunset romantics while guests move into reception, this makes for extra gorgeous photos, and for a great grand entrance into your party!

  •  We will be walking around getting photos of guests mingling. If you want a photo with someone, just grab us, we’re here for you!

Traditions

  • Let us know if you are having a choreographed dance, with dips flips or twirls, this helps us know where to be so we don’t miss them!

  • Make sure your veil is removed and your dress is bustled before your grand entrance.

  • move your chairs closer together for toasts!

Reception

  • if you have certain reception groups/friends that you want photos with, the best time to do this is when they are all seated together during dinner.

  • We will be walking around getting photos of guests mingling, and will be on the dance floor all night! If you want a photo with someone, just grab us, we’re here for you!
